Canada is the second largest country in the world after Russia. The country area is about 9,984,670 square kilometers; 891,163 square kilometers of which is of fresh water; the length of a coastline is about 202,080 km. The geography of Canada is characterized by its diversity; therefore, each region has a different climate and a variety of landscape elements. A large part of Canada is a wilderness, covered with forests and lakes, which are a great place for hunting and fishing. West-central part of the country mostly consists of prairies with large farms. Canada is home to about 34 million people. The country is divided into 10 provinces and 3 territories. The largest Canada’s cities are Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Halifax and Winnipeg.

Because of the large geographical size of Canada, the climate is changing among the country, ranging from temperate in the south and arctic in the north. In general, Canada is known for its cold winters and short warm summers. Climatic conditions of the extreme north of Canada are very harsh, that is why this region is sparsely populated.

Canada's climate is varied as its landscape. Generally, there are four seasons in Canada, especially in the more populated regions along the U.S. border. Daytime summer temperatures can rise to 35 ° C and above, and -25 ° C lows are frequent in winter. In spring and autumn there are more moderate temperatures.

Summers can be hot and dry in the prairies, wet in central Canada, and soft on the coasts. Winters are generally cold and snowy. In the south blows Chinook - a warm dry wind from the Rocky Mountains, making the winter snow melt. On the west coast, in the cities of Vancouver and Victoria, winters are mild and wet.

Canada is rich in natural resources; the most common are zinc, copper, gold, lead, iron ore, nickel, silver, diamonds, molybdenum, potash, coal, oil, wood, natural gas. The country's economy is heavily dependent on natural resources. In the vast wilderness of Canada one can find bears, beavers, moose, lynxes, cougars, geese, pigeons, herons and eagles. In the coastal water there are whales, dolphins, sharks, and salmons.
