The governmental system of Croatia consists of a unitary state with a republican form of government, headed by the president. The highest legislative body of the country is represented by a bicameral parliament. The parliament includes the House of Representatives and the House of Commons. Members of the House of Representatives are chosen by direct popular vote. The term of members’ office is 4 years; the number of members can vary from 100 to 600. The House of Commons consists of 68 members, 5 of which are appointed directly by presidential decree. The rest are elected by popular vote. The head of the country is the president, elected by the citizens of Croatia on the basis of universal suffrage. Elections in Croatia are held every five years; one person can be elected only for two terms. The president of the country serves as a Supreme Commander in Chief, forms the government, represents the country in foreign trips. All candidates for ministerial positions should be approved by the Parliament. Highest judicial authority in Croatia is represented by the Supreme Constitutional Court. President of the court is chosen by members of the court for a period of 4 years. Visa to Croatia. Citizens of Australia, Canada, Ireland, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, United Kingdom, USA and most countries of continental Europe can visit Croatia without a visa for up to 90 days. For citizens of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia and Kyrgyzstan a visa to Croatia can be made in one day. Citizens of Belarus may also obtain a visa to Croatia at the intersection of the Croatian border. Visa fee to Croatia is approximately 6.5 euro. For citizens of Kazakhstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine a visa to Croatia can be issued within one month. The price of ordinary and transit Schengen visa to Croatia is of 19 U.S. dollars, of a twofold one – 37 U.S. dollars. A visa to Croatia for Russian citizens with the presence of a travel voucher is not required. The passport must be valid until the end of the trip. One can export duty-free from Croatia: strong drinks - 1 liter, wine - 2 liters, cigarettes - 200 pieces, cigars – 50 pieces, tobacco – 250 gr., perfumes, cosmetics, foodstuffs, household items – within the limits of personal needs, gifts and souvenirs worth a total of 300 Croatian kunas. It is prohibited the importation of firearms, explosives, ammunition, antiques, drugs and items that damage the ozone layer to Croatia. It is also prohibited the importation, without the special permission, of objects of artistic or collectible value. Foreign currency is freely imported or exported, the domestic currency – until 2,000 kunas. Dogs and cats must be accompanied at the border and have an international certificate, issued by an official veterinarian, of the vaccination against rabies made no earlier than 15 days ago, and no later than 6 months ago. Refund of tax for items over 500 kunas in the presence of the check sample «tax-free» is made while leaving Croatia. | |
