| The Arab Republic of Egypt occupies the north-eastern tip of Africa and the Sinai Peninsula in Asia. In the north, the coast of Egypt is washed by the Mediterranean Sea and in the east by the Red Sea. In the west is the land border with Libya, in the east - with the Palestinian Autonomy and in the south with Sudan. To the east, on the Sinai Peninsula, Egypt borders with Israel. The main part of the territory of Egypt, about 90%, is desert, and because of this, a great part of the 80 million population is concentrated in the valley of the Nile River and its delta, and only a few thousand of people live in rare oases that are found in the sands. On the banks of the Nile, the Egyptians created one of the most ancient, powerful and mysterious civilizations on earth, which monuments still excite thrill and amazement of humanity. Modern people of Egypt remember the glorious past of their country, carefully keeping all traces of old kingdoms, making Egypt one of the most interesting places for an inquisitive traveler. Like thousands of years ago, the Nile still remains as the main artery of the country, and its overflows as the beating of its heart, because all agricultural land and 96% of the population are concentrated on the shore of one of the great rivers of the world. Although 90% of Egypt is desert, the landscape cannot be called lifeless. A considerable number of species of flora and fauna have managed to adapt to the extreme conditions that cannot be said about the people, most of whom live in the fertile banks of the Nile and its delta. | |
